About

Hey there!

First of all, I just have to say, good for you!  I am so glad you decided to click around on the web to search for someone with whom you can connect on your wellness journey.

My name is Amy and I am a wife, a mom of three, an educator, an ally, and of course, a therapist.  I believe that everyone should have a good counselor in their pocket, just like your doctor or your dentist.  Our mental health is just as important as all other aspects of our lives - maybe most important!

I know making that first phone call can be really hard, but I encourage you to reach out so we can have that first chat. It's exactly why I'm here.  Welcome!

my philosophy

I believe that there does not have to be anything "wrong" with us to benefit from the gifts of therapy.  I like to think of counseling as the ultimate me-time.  Whether you are grappling with a specific issue around which you need serious support, or you are finally trying to uncover who the heck you really are, I am here for it!

I truly feel this is our main purpose in life: to discover ourselves so we can best show up in our relationships, our work, and our world. Counseling is for everyone!

my credentials

I am a proud Lincolnite and high school graduate of Lincoln Public Schools.

I took a gap year between high school and college and worked as a receptionist at the coolest hair salon in Lincoln at the time (it's still there with a big, pink neon sign on O street).

The following Fall I decided to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in Psychology, my first true love.  Not knowing when or how I would attend graduate school, I decided as an undergrad to duel matriculate in Teachers College and earn my teaching certificate as a "back-up" plan.  I received endorsements in Psychology (duh) and Communication Studies (also duh if you know me).

5 short years , 4 summer schools, 2 practicums and 1 student teaching experience later, I graduated with a BA in Psychology and my Teaching Certificate. Yay!.

That "back-up" plan led to 10 wonderful years as a middle-school teacher in Lincoln Public Schools, of which I am incredibly proud.  During that time I went back to school and earned my Master's in School Counseling, marrying my two passions, Education and Psychology.  I would go on to become a school counselor in LPS for the next 14 years.

During my time as school counselor, I began working on my licensure to become a mental health provider, completing my original goal of being a clinical community therapist.  I now work full-time in private practice and I couldn't love it more.

my expertise

I really enjoy working with emerging adults (late high school/college age) as well as I also really love supporting women's issues and our LGBTQIA+ community. I have extensive knowledge of anxiety in its many forms, including OCD, as well as a strong understanding of what it means to be neurodivergent and the ways in which that might present.

I am obsessed with integrative and functional nutrition as it relates to supporting our mental health and am working to become a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider (CMHIMP).  I may incorporate some of this work into our sessions.

I am open to consultation on any case.

my modern methodology

I believe in a holistic approach to mental wellness, as we know that the mind and body are connected. My treatments are person-centered, with you at the core.  I integrate evidence based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with solution-focused goals that we create together.  You will leave each session with something to think about or something to try.

Through exploration into the underlying causes of your symptoms and feelings, we can begin to incorporate some tools and habits that will empower you to create real and lasting change.  My therapeutic experience may incorporate suggestions for nutrition, mindfulness, movement and rest to radically shift the mind and body into alignment.
